  • Featured in 911 & Porsche World
  • Fascinating back story

  • The ‘Little Red Bull’
This Porsche 356 B 1600 Super Roadster left the Porsche factory on September 1st, 1960 and was bodied by Draux in Heilbronn. It was the highly desirable direct successor to the iconic Porsche Speedster, and carried forward key styling features like its wrap-round windscreen, fold flat hood and the absence of quarter lights that distinguished it from the more conservative 356 Convertible.

An early example of the updated T5 body style, which first appeared just nine months earlier, the car spent the next thirty years in the dry state of Arizona, where it remained in its original condition until treated to a sympathetic restoration in the early 90s. It was then sold to a Monaco collector.

At this point the car’s history takes a remarkable turn as it was acquired by none other than the founder of Red Bull, Thai billionaire Chaleo Yoovidhya, who in an act of huge generousity gave it as a present to his UK CEO, Harry Drnec, one of the team largely credited in bringing Red Bull to a global audience. The full story appeared in 911 & Porsche World in 2015 entitled A Gift From The Boss.

Since that day in 2001 the car has remained in the same family ownership, and comes for sale for the first time in over two decades.

Regularly serviced and well maintained the car has recently been subject of a repaint in its original colour of Burgundy, and the tan leather interior and matching mohair hood – dating most probably from its restoration in the early nighties – both remain in superb condition. The panel gaps are very good, the chrome superb, and it perfectly evokes the stylish US West Coast scene of the early 1960s.

This is one of the most iconic models from the Porsche lexicon and one with a fascinating Red Bull back story.
